Comporta Style

That this once off-the-radar Portuguese coastal region now has its own defining design style is one big sign that its secret is out. Comporta remains postcard pretty, pristine and protected. Yet the area has caught the attention of trendsetters who can’t help but love its artsy, coastal-cool vibe. Honestly, we couldn’t agree more.

VILLA CASINHOTO, COMPORTA

Coastal wood accents in reed, bamboo, driftwood and thatch combine to create this sand-dusted home trio perfect for a crowd. A pool holds down the central garden space outside a communal villa, and all three units were created for chilling out.

THE LITTLE ORCHARD, MELIDES

Stretching out in the sand in the shade of the cork oak trees, this laid-back villa offers views of the Atlantic and no-fuss styling. It’s comfortable and colorful inside, with an enviable easygoing elegance, and carefree, windswept outdoors.

LATITUDE, MELIDES

A restored farm in a wild, enchanting locale, this sweet compound is integrated into its surroundings outside a rural village. The home’s two separate structures are united by a network of sand-dusted decks and pretty, primitive boardwalks.

CASA DOS BREJOS, COMPORTA

This designer villa features multiple open volumes distinguished by wood blinds that wrap around wide glass walls. Created to blur the boundaries between indoor and out, there’s a breezy aesthetic that makes the home feel only semi enclosed.

CASA PARUS, COMPORTA

Strikingly minimalistic, with sleek concrete floors and walls of glass, this contemporary home takes slow-living Comporta to polished new levels. Named for the songbirds that flutter around it, it’s hung with art, splashed with color, and secluded in stands of shaggy pines.

CASA DA VOLTA, GRÂNDOLA

Whitewashed and rectilinear, this dramatic home was inspired by Moorish fortifications. Dense geometric boundaries in the style of a North African oasis encapsulate contemporary interiors of smooth concrete, glass, and bleached whites.

SUBLIME COMPORTA, GRÂNDOLA

Fresh interiors, crisp lines, and the subtle infusion of natural elements characterize the wood-clad cabanas of this boutique hotel. There’s also a classic single building with suites, and an on-site wellness center and restaurant.
