Located in the UNESCO World Heritage region of the northern Tramuntana Mountains, this villa for rent in Mallorca is surrounded by centuries-old oak forests, olive groves, and rambling Mediterranean gardens in complete privacy just outside of the lovely inland town of Alaró.
Thoughtfully restored in keeping with the original structure's intent as a traditional "Mallorquin" Finca, the villa has the sweet rural charm of traditional Mediterranean cottages of the past, with just the right amount of contemporary touches that keep it fresh, comfortable, and chic.
With interiors by Mallorcan-based firm Rialto Living, the design has united past and present in seamless harmony and has recently been published in Spanish Design.
The living room features high ceilings, exposed wooden beams, and comfy sitting areas and there's an adjacent lounge and dining room with walls of glass that flood the interiors with plenty of natural light. The fully equipped kitchen is ideal for entertaining and can serve up traditional meals inside or out in the shaded terrace area. There are two en suite bedrooms on the ground floor and three additional en suite bedrooms, including a spacious master bedroom with a dressing room on the upper floor and a living room and separate office. A large rooftop terrace offers unparalleled views of the village, the mountains and the surrounding island.
There are acres of abundant fruit orchards, vegetable and herb gardens that guests are welcome to that allow you to cook with the flavors of the island.
The grounds are beautifully landscaped and include a refreshing pool, and relaxing spa along with a tennis and basketball court, all with great views of the scenic Alaro mountains.
You'll notice the friendly resident sheep and lambs that wander the outer gardens among this bucolic setting.
MALLORCA'S INLAND MOUNTAIN TOWNS
Nestled within a peaceful valley on the southern slopes of the UNESCO Sierra Tramuntana mountain range, the village of Alaró is originally believed to have started as an Arab farming community dating back as early as the 13th century. The charming town square and cobbled alleyways have great little cafes and shops to explore and a weekly Saturday market to peruse the freshest local produce and crafts.
The villa is the perfect starting point for hiking and biking including the paths up to Castell d'Alaró for some of the most magnificent views of the island and out to the coast. Halfway between the capital and the southern coast, the main road intersects the island for access to either side.
Palma is also under 30 minutes drive and these days has become more like a mini Barcelona, with stylish bars, cafes, restaurants and shopping and the stunning Cathedral of Palma La Seu at its heart. Don't miss the nearby Santa Catalina food market on Saturday afternoons with its “Tardeo” time that turns the streets into a big meeting point of people, food, and fun. The old fisherman's village of Portixol just outside of Palma has become the new hot spot to live and is ideal for a stroll at the beach and some tapas.
