in the mountains: 1956 Ranch House, Santa Barbara, California

Only 1.5 miles from downtown Santa Barbara, this 1956 Ranch House is a tranquil getaway updated with a whimsical mix of vintage design and modern touches. With 3 bedrooms and tons of outdoor space, the house is fully equipped for both short and long-term stays.
The common areas include a comfortable living room with gas-operated fireplace, dining area, home library, and lounge (with circa-1900 upright piano). The kitchen will please the pickiest chef with its stainless steel appliances, double convection oven, and large island, and counters made of recycled glass.
However, as with any mid-century property, the best “room” in the house is the outdoors. Beyond the sliding glass doors is an expansive deck with gas grill, outdoor dining set, hot tub, padded hammock, and wicker lounge.
From the house, guests can easily hop on the open air shuttle to downtown Santa Barbara, drive down to the beach, hike up to Cathedral and La Cumbre Peaks (the owner can give you directions), or head to Santa Ynez Valley for wine-tasting.

“Beautiful Santa Barbara Retreat”
We just recently spent a long weekend at this wonderful retreat. The house is so inviting and warm. The outdoor area is absolutely beautiful and we spent as much time as possibly outdoors enjoying it. The house is fully equiped with everything you need such as an abundance of towels, wireless, fully stocked kitchen with utensils and equipment. A lovely bottle of champagne was left for us on our arrival. What a great touch! We will most definitely come back and stay again
Recommended for:Sightseeing, romantic getaway, adventure seekers, families with young children, pet owners, families with teenagers, age 55+, tourists without a car, girls getaway.

Spent a week in this rental with my 2 children (ages 8 & 5)and we had a very relaxing vacation! Quiet street near Mission Street with easy access to the 101. We had plenty of room for my extended family to stay with us also. We spent alot of time Bbqing & hanging out on the back patio. My kids really enjoyed the hammock & picking oranges!! Emily was very helpful & a pleasure to rent from. Thanks Emily!!

“Fabulous Mid-Century Stunner”
This house is amazing. Lots of cool places to stretch out, indoors and out. Very well decorated with quality pieces and pleasantly surprising details. The lighting was especially nice, I had fun setting the mood with all the different configurations of it! And the kitchen, the person that put it together must be a gourmet chef. There is every sort of gadget and tool one could need, and tons of fun cups, wine glasses and dishes. The front garden, deck and yard were lovely, even the oranges I picked from the tree were delicious. I just loved this place!

The house was absolutely beautiful, extremely comfortable, well equipped and decorated with extraordinary taste. It was a perfect place to stay while in Santa Barbara. The little touches made all the difference. The house was exactly as advertised, and clean. The house is filled with books, art, and all your kitchen needs. The outdoor space is by far my favorite and I love the orange tree in the back….. ( Makes for a delicious Mimosa). The homeowners were wonderful, thanks for everything!~
