The Big Red Barn is a soulful family home on a 100-hectare estate dating from the late 17th century. Nestled in the rural landscape houses a chic and practical property where comfort and modern fittings meet practical and tasteful living. Only 50 minutes north of Lisbon and 5 minutes from the gated city of Obidos, the Big Red Barn is set up to accommodate up to 10 guests in simple style.

Each corner of the home is filled with various objects and pieces collected by the owner, a travel reporter and photographer. The terrace overlooks a beautiful garden with a small infinity pool. A modern heated pool is located in the lower gardens.

The Big Red Barn has 5 bedrooms (3 with en-suite bathrooms.) There is still a 2 story independent annex with a double room with two single beds, full bathroom, living area and kitchnette.

All amenities are included in the rate, such as central heating, fireplace, satellite TV, internet, DVDs, books, and more. If you can tear yourself away from the simple luxury of the Big Red Barn, you will find some of the most beautiful beaches and some of the best golf courses on Portugal’s Silver Coast.

The Big Red Barn is located just 10 km from the historical city Óbidos, as well as the interesting and historical city Caldas da Rainha, where you can find everything you need. Supermarkets, bakery, local market for vegetarians lovers, newspapers, hospital and clinics.

Casa Encosta do Atlantico is a contemporary residence located on the Atlantic coast at the foothills of the Sintra mountains, 30 minutes drive from the capital city of Portugal. It offers breathtaking, 180 degree views of the ocean from every room in the house save for one.

The indoor-outdoor design utilizes floor to ceiling glass for continuous natural lighting throughout the day. The interiors are furnished with mid-century classics and modern designs. The house has three bedrooms including a master suite. The kitchen is fully equipped with an American-style refrigerator/freezer and all necessary cooking utensils.

Nearby are many cool places to explore and relax. Praia do Guincho, one of the best known beaches in Portugal, is about 3 kilometers from the house and is known for being one of the best spots in Europe for surfing, kit-surfing, and wind-surfing. Cabo da Roca, the westernmost point of continental Europe is a 10 minute drive away. The Moorish mountain village of Sintra, the former summer residence of Portuguese royalty and a UNESCO World Heritage site, is also nearby.

Chromatic House is a wonderland of color, detail, whimsy, and minimalist design in a refurbished 19th townhouse in Torres Vedras, 50 km north of Lisbon. Designed by architect Pedro Gandanho, the home uses a mix of bright and pastel colors to define the space and highlight accents on period plaster moldings, staircases, and built-in cabinetry for a striking contrast between old and new.

Each room in the two-story home has its own “environment” created out of color and division of space. A sense of playfulness is evident in the functional decor, such as a sculptural red and white pill that conceals a children’s bathroom, an octagonal closet in muted pea green, and a luggage elevator painted bright yellow.

Despite the thoroughly modern interiors, Chromatic House is located in the old part of Torres Vedras and offers great views of the city and castle from the rooftop terrace. With 1 suite and 3 bedrooms, Chromatic House is a true treat for lovers of design and color.

A wonderful continental breakfast prepared with local produce is included in the rate. It’s served al fresco next to your yurt. Packed lunches and evening meals are also available at your request.

The Glamping Yurts are located in a great area for wild swimming in one of several nearby rivers, fishing, mountain-biking, stargazing, and other outdoor activities. A visit to the many historic destinations in the area (Romain ruins and medieval castles among them) can be arranged. The towns of Arganil and Gois are twenty minutes drive from the Yurts and offer a weekly market and several cafes.

Moura Encantada is, well, enchanting. Set right on the edge of the Santa Clara reservoir, the Villa offers a tranquil, relaxing experience in the Alentejo reigion, the “bread basket” of Portugal. More than just a vacation rental, Moura Encantada will introduce you to Portuguese culture from the moment you arrive.

Simple and spacious, the villa has two bedrooms, one bathroom, a living area, and several terraces. A suspended deck with lounge chairs and an outdoor dining set is built over the dam, offering spectacular views of Santa Clara lake. Moura Encantada is the perfect spot for couples or a family with young children. The villa is located 230 km south of Lisbon, or about a 2.5 hour drive. The nearest airport is in Faro, about an hour’s drive from Villa Encantada. Parking is available onsite.
