Rainbows and Dragons Hike Inn, Big Sur, California(6)Guestbook entries
WHAT WE LIKE ABOUT THIS PROPERTY
Secluded and rustic, we love the bold use of primary colors, lush wild gardens and lighthearted concept. It takes some effort to get here and it’s worth it!
Unconventional, colorful, and rustic, Rainbows and Dragons Hike Inn is made up of two unique multi-level dwellings nestled into a lush hillside garden. Private and remote, the compound was created and lovingly conceived by the long time owner and Big Sur resident and artist.
An unexpected patchwork of early Craftsman and Victorian architecture, each house is an unabashedly cheerful creation designed to be a place where guests can truly experience the Big Sur lifestyle without commercial gloss. The surrounding environment is totally raw and natural with ocean and sage-scented air, and amazing views above the redwood canopy filled with hummingbirds, bees, and butterflies. Reached only via a steep zigzag trail through the redwoods, you’ll want to take your time and enjoy the hike as the gardens are a truly beautiful achievement.
The Dragon House is a four level dwelling with one bedroom, located just above the living room and kitchen. There is an additional bed available on the rooftop, which also serves as a deck for truly magical views and peaceful fresh air snoozing. An antique claw foot tub and private outdoor shower are a fun way to enjoy the scenery in total privacy.
The Rainbow house is three levels with two bedrooms and one bath and sleeps up to four. The roof top room, which also serves as a sun deck, has a double bed for additional guests.
The perfect place to renew and refresh the spirit in a beautiful California setting, the Inn is a unique and magical paradise off the beaten track.
In keeping with the rustic vibe and lifestyle, amenities are simple and include variable bedding and linens, and a variety of cookware, utensils, and dish ware. Each house has a kitchen with propane burner and water heater, fridge, and gas or charcoal grill (charcoal provided). For chilly nights, a wood stove (wood provided) or propane heater are available.
Be sure to bring good hiking shoes and be prepared to tote your supplies up the trail!
