Glass Cabin, LaConner, Washington
An hour’s drive north from Seattle places you find yourself in the bountiful farmland of the Skagit Valley and picturesque town of LaConner, Washington. Opportunities for kayaking, bike riding, beach explorations, bird watching, gallery hopping, boutique shopping and more await. Your destination is Reef Point Bay on Fidalgo Island.
Like an insect warming itself in the sun, our cabin sits in the underbrush at the water’s edge. Near Deception Pass on the Swinomish Indian Reservation and set amid the old growth trees, the house floats on steel beams within the coniferous canopy. Transparent glazing provides protection from the weather yet opens the building completely to its immediate surroundings and to views of Hope island, Whidbey Island, the Olympic Mountains and beyond.
Opening into a large open living room with wood burning stove, as well as electric heat, a large family dining table divides the living and gourmet kitchen areas. Enjoy cooking here with the delicious local foods procured along the way (ask us to share our favorite stops with you). The bathroom, also on the main floor has heated floors and a large naturally lit shower. Upstairs are two bedrooms (one with queen bed and other with twin bed) as well as a large sleeping loft (2 twin beds) each complete with sheets and towels.
Down the wide outdoor stairs is a stone surfaced patio/dining area with BBQ beyond which is your private stair access to the beach. There are many locations at the cabin that are perfect for curling up with a book, watching the birds, snoozing in the sunshine or simply enjoying a conversation late into the night.
