An elegant and very private villa on 11.5 acres of peaceful land near the historic town of Koloa, Eco Luxe Longhouse combines the simple luxury of Japanese architecture, the artistic heritage of Hawaii, and wellness-based approach to vacation. With only one bedroom and two baths (one with soaking tub), the Longhouse is a romantic retreat for 2 people.

The high ceilings, wide eaves, and ceiling fans ensure a cool interior even on the most humid of tropical days. A fully equipped galley kitchen is available for self-catering; you can pick your own fresh herbs and seasonal fruits straight from the garden. A private chef can be arranged to prepare a romantic dinner.

Custom built from local hardwoods, the property is filled with original paintings, lithographs, and art objects from local artists imbuing the property with the essence of Hawaiian culture. An attached art gallery gives guests access to the leading artists of Kauia via guided tours, studio visits, art talks, art lessons, and opening receptions.

The large exterior spaces, including several generous terraces with hammocks and loungers, offer stunning views of rolling green hills of the Garden Isle and the sparkling blues of the Pacific Ocean. A jacuzzi hot tub nestled between the boulders offers amazing views of the valley.

The Spa at Ka Hale O Luina is located nearby and is a must-stop for visitors to Wabi Spa House. With a unique team of massage therapists, yoga teachers, chefs, and personal trainers, guests can avail themselves of any number of treatments during their stay. Custom spa packages can also be arranged with the owner.

Only 1.5 miles from downtown Santa Barbara, this 1956 Ranch House is a tranquil getaway updated with a whimsical mix of vintage design and modern touches. With 3 bedrooms and tons of outdoor space, the house is fully equipped for both short and long-term stays.

The common areas include a comfortable living room with gas-operated fireplace, dining area, home library, and lounge (with circa-1900 upright piano). The kitchen will please the pickiest chef with its stainless steel appliances, double convection oven, and large island, and counters made of recycled glass.

However, as with any mid-century property, the best “room” in the house is the outdoors. Beyond the sliding glass doors is an expansive deck with gas grill, outdoor dining set, hot tub, padded hammock, and wicker lounge.

From the house, guests can easily hop on the open air shuttle to downtown Santa Barbara, drive down to the beach, hike up to Cathedral and La Cumbre Peaks (the owner can give you directions), or head to Santa Ynez Valley for wine-tasting. 

Perched at the top of Laurel Canyon in Los Angeles, this house was designed by architect R.M. Schindler in 1936 and is considered one of the city’s masterworks of Modern architecture.

Its interlocking spaces, spectacularly framed views, seamless flows from indoor to outdoor spaces, and perfect proportions make for a wholly inspiring place to spend time. Set up as a retreat house for artists in residence, it is sometimes also available for short-term rental. It was recently restored according to the original plans, and is ideal for lovers of historic architecture.

The private enclave with gate includes 1 bedroom with an office that can be set up as a bedroom, 1.5 baths, a swimming pool, a living room with fireplace and a long dining table, a fully-equipped kitchen, outdoor dining areas, a bbq grill, views of the canyon, laundry, parking, and wifi.

The house is owned by non-profit organization MAK Center for Art and Architecture at the Schindler House. All proceeds from rental support the MAK Center’s conservation of Modern architecture and its cultural programs in Los Angeles. Free admission to the landmark Schindler House (R.M. Schindler, 1922) in West Hollywood included with rental.

Please note that this house is being made available here for short-term residential use only – any and all photo shoots or film shoots (artistic or commercial), or any private events with more than 6 guests, must be arranged with the MAK Center directly. All rentals require a 48 hour prior notice.

This 800 square ft. redwood 1917 cabin is virtually unchanged from its original plan, and is a rare example of an “unimproved” all-redwood cabin/small house in the charming village of Inverness, nestled between Tomales Bay and Point Reyes National Park. It has been gently restored into a romantic rustic cabin, and retains all the original redwood planking, half doors, wobbly glass in the windows, and the open fireplace (wood provided!)

There is a master bedroom with canopied queen bed, and a closed-in sleeping porch with 2 singles that can be converted to a king. There is one bathroom with tub/shower and an outside shower for the adventurous. 

Hot water is now on-demand and, in addition to the fireplace, we have added forced-air heating to take the chill off when you arrive and are waiting for the (very efficient) traditional fireplace to warm the heart of the cabin.

The cabin is ideally located 5 minutes from Inverness village center and the spectacular beaches of Tomales Bay State Park.

10 minute drive to the town of Point Reyes Station, the epicenter of exceptional California organic food, wine, cheese and restaurants; Cow Girl Creamery, Hog Island Oysters, Marin Sun Farms, Osteria Stellina etc. Live music at the Dance Palace.

San Francisco and Wine Country are a little over an hour away by car.

The owner is an architectural photographer, and his architect clients who have seen the cabin have been stunned by its charm and authenticity.

Dutchess County Mill is a historic building renovated by the owner’s parents from an abandoned space into an architectural rental for up to 9 people. Exposed raw stone and wood are complimented with a quirky mix of mid-century modern and antique furnishings, along with original artwork.

The ground floor living room has high ceilings and contains a full kitchen, and dining area (with fireplace!). The bedrooms are located on the second story; a Master Suite with private en suite bathroom and wood burning stove and 3 smaller bedrooms, including a sleeping loft, with views of the waterfall.

Throughout are cozy touches through the mill such as sitting nooks, wood burning stoves, and the owner’s collection of 60′s and 70′s enamel ware. Dutchess County Mill is a minimalist retreat only 2 hours from New York City.

The Mackey Apartments (R.M. Schindler, 1939) are located on South Cochran Avenue in Los Angeles, near the intersection of La Brea and Olympic Boulevard.

The penthouse is the largest apartment in the building, with two floors, a cantilevered dining mezzanine on the second floor, a fully equipped kitchen, a furnished bedroom with a full-size bed, a study, wireless internet, and marvelously framed views of the city. There is also a phone available for local calls and an alarm system. A laundry room is available in the building for your use and street parking is plentiful in the neighborhood.

The four other apartments are occupied by participants in our Residency program, where international artists and architects are awarded the chance to come to Los Angeles, live at the Mackey Apartments, and work on projects that engage the city.

The penthouse is available at a rate of $220 per night for a minimum of two nights. There is a mandatory $120 housekeeping fee, and the option to have regular housekeeping during your stay for $60 an instance. A contract that explains the usage and regulations of this historic building must be signed before occupancy. All rentals require a 48 hour prior notice.

Great for groups! Just 6.5 miles from the heart of downtown Seattle, Artisan Oasis features a private, custom designed modern cottage with adjacent mini guest house, which together can sleep up to nine people. The houses can be rented separately or together. Rental fees include use of a car and the location is just a few blocks from public transportation if preferred.

The Main Cottage at Artisan Oasisis is a light-filled two bedroom, one bathroom open plan house that can sleep up to 6 people. It is an aesthetically pleasing and peaceful environment where guests can relax and have a great time with family and friends. The kitchen area features two dining areas, custom built cabinets and hardware, and salvaged fixtures and furnishings. The back door opens to a large patio and garden area with grill. The Mini House is a 250 sq. ft. guest cottage with a sleeping loft reached by an old ship ladder, with windows that look out over the Cascade Mountain Range. There is also a wood burning stove the keeps the little house cozy in the winter, French doors that open out onto a back patio with a garden and fruit trees, vintage outdoor dining table and chairs, and a soaking tub with a hand held shower in a large bathroom. Built by Seattle artist and designer Michelle de la Vega, the Artisan Oasis is modern, rustic, comfortable and relaxing. The Main Cottage and Mini House are one of a kind, featuring custom handmade and found features and open, simple floor plans. Set on a property with fruit trees, raspberries, raised garden beds and large front and back yard areas, the Main Cottage and Mini House are complemented by patios perfect for grilling and outdoor dining.

The Blue House at Verana is located right next to the ocean and is available as a rental apart from the hotel. Guests have access to all the amenities of Verana while having a cool, separate space to relax and rejuvenate in. The Blue House has 3 bedrooms and a private pool for your exclusive use.

Enjoy amazing ocean views from every room in the house, including from the large bathutub and canopied beds. A kitchenette contains a small fridge (can be stocked prior to your arrival), coffee maker, and tea.

Longview Ranch is an amazing modern home set on 187 acres of private land in gorgeous Mendocino County. Originally an industrial workshop, Longview is now a modern home nestled into a beautiful, rugged landscape.

Longview Ranch boasts a gourmet kitchen and two 10-person dining tables (one indoors, one outdoors). A picnic lunch on one of the property’s scenic outlooks is not to be missed. Catering is available, though Ukiah’s food co-op makes it easy to purchase fresh produce.

Longview Ranch is an ideal property for couples with young children. There is 1,000 square foot open studio for the kids to play in, along with a porch, fenced yard, several tree swings, and a hilltop fairy ring for picnics, tea parties, and tree climbs. The property owner also provides toys and 2 cribs are available in addition to beds. The ranch is totally babyproofed and basic First Aid is provided.

The ranch is just a mile from Orr Hot Springs Resorts, where guests can enjoy spa treatments, and it’s also located very close to Montgomery Woods, a redwood grove. Nearby Mendocino Village, Anderson Valley wine country, and Hopland are great options for day trips. 

Nestled in the Santa Monica Mountains and bordering Malibu Creek State Park, Malibou Lake House is but a short, scenic drive away from Malibu’s famous beaches, shops and restaurants. Right on your doorstep are miles and miles of breathtaking landscapes and trails for hiking, horseback riding or mountain biking.

Built in the 1930s by Paramount Studios, Gable’s Lodge was reportedly the secret meeting place for Clark Gable and Carol Lombard before their marriage – thus the name!

This romantic “get away” house has three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a large living room with a stone fireplace, family/dining room, and fully equipped kitchen. Outside the French doors is a large stone patio overlooking the California Hills. The house is surrounded by natural gardens and has several outdoor decks, as well as a salt water pool.
