Designed by Frank Lloyd Wright student, Frank Robert, Kaweah Falls is a modern rustic retreat home tucked away at the base of the Sequoia National Park in the cozy Sierra Nevada mountain town of Three Rivers, CA—an easy 3.5 hrs. from Los Angeles, 4.5 hrs from San Francisco, and 1+ hr from Fresno Yosemite International airport.
A finalist in Dwell magazine’s 2010 ‘Houses We Love’ competition, the home bridges a regulated water flume leading to a private sandy beach and a year-round active waterfall. From the bar watch rainbow trout swimming below through a glass-bottomed floor.

This trip was a very relaxing vacation. The outdoors is so beautiful! It’s like camping and then not having to get in a tent! NICE!! The home is so beautiful and comfy. The best of both worlds.
We are 6 friends that spend a good week together each year to enjoy each others company. Friends are precious. We got in the water (BURR), roasted marshmallows ATE and slept. What more could you ask of life. It’s the best!

Our first time at Kaweah Falls. We came to celebrate my brother’s 66th birthday–which was belated from last year’s 65th. Three couples had a great time; 2 couples from LA and one couple from Northern CA. My brother is a fan of Frank Lloyd Wright architecture so this was a way of honoring that interest. Of all the places our family has stayed, including Jamaica, Hawaii, Big Sur, your slice of paradise is the one that stole my heart! … The whole of this Hagenston family found their heaven here; from reading peacefully near the riverfront and napping to the roar of the river to wondering at the beauty and gleefully exploring every amazing crevice, everyone greatly enjoyed their week here, no matter how long we really waited to stay (“forever”). Personally, my favorite part was the rocky river bordering the sandy beach. I spent so much time hopping across the rocks with Dad and splashing in the cool water, and I enjoyed every second! The wildlife and overall nature was beautiful … This whole place really blessed my vacation time, and we all hope to come again!

Kaweah Falls, Dream Land. When I first opened the gate and walked down the stairs with my friends, we came down and had our first view of our home for the next 4 days. We were amazed by what we saw, it was beautiful. My friends began to thank me and tell me I had made the best choice ever. It is a place where you can get lost. I had many moments taking me back to my childhood, just sitting and gazing at the water, trees and just taking everything in. It is the type of place that you want to keep to yourself, but I would highly recommend to my family & friends. I look forward to the opportunity of visiting this lovely place in the near future.

We were proud to be guests number 83 at your magical house. We arrived late Saturday after a peaceful roundabout drive along Yokohl Valley road from a small cabin we were staying in near Springville. We were simply in awe when we stepped into your house and then outside to the river. We’d initially planned to go to the park Sunday but we found we couldn’t bring ourselves to leave the house. Monday we had an incredible day hiking through the snow in Sequoia. You truly have one of the most special houses we’ve ever seen. Thank you so much for sharing it with us!

We have gathered many times in many different homes, and this is by far our favorite! We have had such a wonderful time here. It is so beautiful and peaceful. The house is incredible – what a lovely combination of wood and rock. It is evident this is a home and not just a rental property because the attention to detail is exquisite!
We spent our time as we always do, playing cards, talking, and eating well. We enjoyed the fire and the river. We have left you a book plate from the book called Moonlight on Linoleum: A Daughter’s Memoir. The book was written by one of the sisters and is about our lives growing up. I have been reading about this house online for several years, and couldn’t have imagined that the reality was even better than I expected. Our two families loved every part of it, from the impeccable design to the incredible scenes outside. Even the low water from the drought was ok because it meant the little kids could go in the creek with us. The river, the house, your attention to detail, made for an incredible holiday. I celebrated my 30th birthday at Kaweah Falls with my boyfriend, sister, cousin and a couple of other dear friends . We had an absolutely memorable time…as did our red standard poodle, who found his true calling fetching from the river. I think we used every single area of the property and house to sit and relax…from the upstairs deck, the porch swing, the river deck, to a leisurely nap in the hammock. The privacy and separation of the bedrooms is a great feature for a trip with a group of adults. We look forward to returning. Thanks for being a great host, Chris!

Where do I even begin – It’s time for me to leave, sitting on the deck by the river and breathing in and out the ultimate zen this “Private Resort” has balanced my energy – From the first step at the gate coming in, my whole spirit started to shine!
What a piece of Heaven on Earth this place is. Very hard to part, but without a doubt this experience will remain deeply engraved in my memory. I cannot say that a certain part of the house was my favorite, every detailed element to bring peace of mind and tranquility has been gifted – Eternal memories have been created during my stay – Was it a dream or was it reality?

We drove into Three Rivers in the dark of the night after hours of hiking & hours of driving. We awoke to the serenity & perfection that is Kaweah Falls.
This has been the most pleasurable respite to a grueling California adventure.
From the kids making “Island Forts” on the rocks in the river to heating a pizza stone that smelled of good pizza before even cooking our own, we commend you for your artistic design & your understanding of how to live life.
We ate in four different places & never made it to the dining room table. We relaxed in six different chairs and never experienced them all. We loved being here.

What a magical place! We had such a relaxing stay! We felt right at home and enjoyed every second. The attention to detail in the house was awe-inspiring and makes me want to redecorate my own home ASAP!!! The bath products were swoon-worthy, and lucky for me, I was able to order my own supply online, which should be waiting for me on the door step when I get home (a little piece of Kaweah Falls for my daily life). Our family enjoyed the quality time spent here and we all can’t wait to pay another visit. Keep a look out for the baby ducks nesting on the rocks by the beach!

This home is amazing!!! We have rented homes in San Diego, Hawaii, the Florida Keys, the Jersey Shore, etc. but none have been as FABULOUS as Kaweah Falls! We don’t want to leave! The sounds of the river have truly relaxed and recharged us all. (So did crossing the chilly waters.
) We were able to see bears, a momma and her cub, hawks, deer, hummingbirds in a tiny nest and beautiful swallowtail butterflies gliding through the property. Every detail in this property is exquisite. We hope to come and stay here again…as soon as possible! Thank you so much for letting us enjoy your home!

I was drawn to “Three Rivers” for years; often looking at homes to rent but nothing drew my attention until I happened to stumble upon ‘A River Runs Though It’ – I knew then the specialness that this sanctuary had to offer.
Leaving LA was frenetic and frantic. I carried with me the buzz and intensity that my job and city living infuses in me. However, after my time here, connecting back to nature’s time, a simpler rhythm and harmonizing with nature I feel restored and refreshed.
I also was able to watch ‘Dillon Rose’, my 5 month old Flat Coated Retriever grow from a puppy into a young, confident dog.
As they say, “you can’t walk into the same river twice exactly the same” – life is always changing.

Your home is a magical place – comfortable, inviting, beautifully integrated with the sounds and flow of the river. There are so many interesting touches throughout the property. Just when you think you’ve seen them all, you discover another hidden bird house or chair or rock or piece of driftwood.
I enjoyed every minute that I spent in the house, by the river or hiking nearby. Whenever I left the house, I couldn’t wait to get back.
The sand beach was the perfect place for dog play, and the wooden dock the ideal spot for launching our Kon-Tiki rafts to see which would travel the farthest. I think my favorite spots are the hammock, the bathtub in the master bath, and the glass floor in the kitchen where I would watch the river flowing underneath the house.
I hate to leave this special place and return to the real world. I hope to come back here again in the spring when the waterfalls are flowing and the wildflowers are blooming and share the beauty and the special quality of your home.

We are four friends of forty years. Our travels have taken us to many places. Nothing compares to the beauty and the peace we have experienced here. Our first steps into this paradise retreat were thrilling, no doubt our hopes for a restorative week would be fully met! The soothing sounds of the rushing water, the restful greens and artistic landscaping would provide the perfect background for cleansing our minds and refreshing our spirits.
The zen quality of your home is in perfect harmony with the natural beauty of this location. It reaches within and calms the soul. We started each day enjoying the sunrise with coffee at the river then sought out a new and wonderful experience. The hikes, the sequoias, the vistas, the caves, all amazing but after a few hours we began to yearn for our perfect hide-a-way where we enjoyed our wine on the riverside deck and watched the perfect sunsets.

Our journey to Kaweah Falls began in April/May following an invitation to a wedding in Three Rivers. A google search gave us several options but once we found the “Big House” we hoped we could book it – obviously we did for 7 nights in late September.
We all looked forward to our arrival, especially after reading the previous reviews, but nothing could have prepared us the 5 Star luxury we have found – so much thought and detail has gone into this spectacular home.
We did venture out a few times to Kings Canyon and the Sequoia’s – even catching glimpses of deer and two bears.
I’m so glad that the wedding was in Three Rivers otherwise we would not have found this small piece of heaven on earth. Our time here as a family with two teenage children has been fantastic. Both children have been happy to sit and catch on film the river wildlife. The grownups, our memory is the sound of the water.
I do hope that one day my husband Andy and I will be able to come back and stay.

We had an absolutely wonderful time! Our family caught up on the news with each other, ate too much, read books trying out every nook provided, and my 85 year old mother waded across the river and back. We bird watched, swam in the perfect temperature water, napped in the sun, and photographed everything. It couldn’t have been better. On the way home we stopped at the Superior Dairy in Hanford for milkshakes, the perfect ending to a perfect vacation.

Trip into National Park was a bonus – had to tear ourselves away from here.
We were so excited when our friends in Solano Beach forwarded us your link and couldn’t wait to come here! The wait has been truly worth it! It is our 5th night and we are sad to leave – we could very easily stay another 5 nights. We love your home and have been in awe of the design and the way you have ‘accented” everything here – truly an inspiration!
We will remember our time here fondly and will miss waking up to the sound of the river. Our kids will definitely remember the fun we have all had here!

Wow is right! Words can’t explain the zen this place has mastered. My husband and I are both architects and have spent a lifetime trying to capture the sacred in spaces since we do mostly churches. It’s all about balance and this heavenly place has it. Even our dog doesn’t want to leave. Thank you for all you do to make it perfect. We can’t wait to come back. (S. Hyndman) We originally had plans to do all sorts of things from hiking, off-road driving, visiting the Sequoias, but after first arriving, we all agreed that nothing could be better than just hanging out with the family. Truly exceptional. This is quite simply a magical place. We happened to meet Chris the morning of our arrival. His good nature, coupled with the walk through the immaculate and intricately decorated house, was a perfect introduction to our week here. Every detail has been considered, from linens to firewood for the outdoor pit to the elaborate descriptions in their booklet of what to see/do/eat in Three Rivers. We’ve vacationed at some remarkable resorts over the years, and this bests them all. Stay a while if you can; it will restore you.

Our stay here at Kaweah Falls was the culmination of a two week “sampler trip” of central California, and as far as accommodations go, the highlight of our journey. The only fault we could find with the house was that it impaired our ability to explore the surrounding National Parks – it was so nice we didn’t want to leave it! ☺ It was the perfect spot for our family to gather together to enjoy quality time – roasting S’mores by the campfire, stargazing by the river, hiking along the flume, or just sipping coffee on the deck. Being surrounded by the sights and sounds of nature was just what this outdoor-loving family needed at the end of a busy vacation! You guys could write the book on hospitality – we were made to feel especially welcome and we thank you. We appreciate your offering up your home to us, and we hope to visit again sometime.
