Divided into two separate residences with an adjacent greenhouse, the main home is a modern alteration of the original soaring barn structure with mid-century lines, while the studio is a space for separate reflection and relaxation. With a total of five bedrooms and two baths, this multi-level home can make anyone feel like an artist in residence.
With simple furnishings, curious and unexpected art pieces, cement floors and reclaimed wood accents, this house has an artistic identity all it’s own but with every modern amenity for comfort and efficiency. The amazing and spacious heated greenhouse is a highlight of the property and a year round oasis. It seats sixteen and serves as a focal point to enjoy nature alongside the organic seasonal gardens.
Free spirited and informal there is an ease of living here that is unmistakable.
With a total of five individual bedrooms between the main house and studio (one king, two full beds,and two twin beds), this compound sleeps a maximum of eight, each with cosy bedding and two full baths.
Take full advantage of the organic garden and seasonal local foods with the fully equipped cook’s kitchen and Wolfe stove and convection oven. Comfortable central AC and heat, wood fire in the Greenhouse, and two outdoor Grills for al fresco dining. Wireless service thoughout and land-line provided for local use (Please note: there is little or no internet/cell service in Washington)
A TV and DVD player (No cable) with a selection of DVDs, games and books. There are multiple places to find privacy and solitude for reading and artistic expression.
The Barn Hill house is surrounded by acres of country lanes in the woodlands of Washington, Connecticut. A chic and star-studded enclave of New York weekend homes, Bell Hill is five minutes away and is filled with fine dining, galleries and boutiques in a secluded and exclusive setting.
It is also minutes from the Steep Rock Preservation, a private reserve with several locations open to the public along the Shepaug River or hiking up to the Pinnacle with spectacular views of Lake Waramaug. There is a state park on Lake Waramaug as well as a public boat launch. Lake Waramaugh and Mount Tom State park are within 15 minutes.
