Villa Extramuros is a contemporary, 5-room hotel in Arraiolos, a small city in Alentejo, a Portuguese province famous for its unspoiled natural beauty, long history, and rich gastronomic tradition. Open all year long, the hotel offers peace and quiet in a stunning setting perfectly complemented by clean and modern design.

The Villa offers three standard rooms and two superior rooms, all located on the first floor, with panoramic views from their private patios. Standard rooms have separate dressing rooms and bathrooms with showers and natural lighting. Superior rooms offer views of the Arraiolos castle, village, and countryside.

In the heart of New Zealand’s Southern Alps, Riverrun lodge is set on an escarpment and surrounded by 500 acres bordering New Zealand’s largest river, the Clutha. There are walks, mountain bike and running trails and spectacular and uninterrupted mountain views. The accommodation is relaxed, charming and private, with attention to comfort and detail and an emphasis on reclaimed timber and handcrafted furniture.

Rooms at Riverrun are spacious and uncluttered. The larger Clutha Rooms (three total) have two single beds that can be pushed together to form a super-king bed, while the two Cardrona rooms have queen-sized beds. All rooms have en-suite bathrooms with robes towels and herbal toiletries provided.

Facilities include two ground floor lounges with log fires and generous seating, a guest tea/coffee room with guest fridge stocked with complimentary refreshments (homemade cookies always available!), an extensive media library, equipment locker and ski drying room with mountain bikes and fishing rods for guest use, and a private outdoor cedar hot tub.

Todos Santos Hotel is an award-winning boutique b&b for chic travelers who are tired of the mega resorts of Baja California Sur. Set close to the town of Todos Santos and overlooking the tranquil Palm Oasis towards the Mission Church, it’s only a 12 minute stroll along a sandy lane to the Beach of La Cachora where whales come and visit every winter. A peaceful and private retreat that blends modern architecture with the vibrant colors of Mexico.

There are only 4 guest cottage available, each named after their exteriors (Azul, Verde, Rosa, and Violeta) and accommodating up to 3 guests. Each cottage either has a private garden or a large terrace furnished with hammocks, loungers, and a shaded verandah. Squeezed in-between the Hegge Fjord and Jotunheimen, Norway’s highest mountain range, in the Norwegian province of Valdres, one can find the village of Heggenes. Here, at 500 meters altitude, surrounded by woods and water, is a magnificent estate, and right in the middle, just like in a fairy tale, is our sizable wooden home.

Our Boutique Hotel is a typical traditional build for the Valdres province. Around it are some more ancient (uninhabited) buildings that the province has moved here in order to conserve its cultural heritage. We are now in a position to house 29 guests in five stylish themed rooms, 4 suites, 1 lodge and 1 fully furnished apartment.

Our restaurant with a cozy wood-burning stove and big dining tables makes the hall perfect for celebrations and parties. We transformed our home into a full service boutique hotel with an authentic atmosphere that anybody would love to have at home!

Make the “French connection” in Mexico at Maison Couturier, a 19th century farming estate turned into a chic 9-room hotel near Veracruz, Mexico.

The traditions of the French immigrants who originally settled the area have been preserved at Maison Couturier. Surrounded by lemon and banana trees, the hotel offers guests a remarkable opportunity to “travel back in time” and enjoy the simple luxury of a lush tropical lifestyle. Guests have the option of staying in the landowner’s suite or one of 8 bungalows, each with their own private terrace and hammock. Each room has air conditioning, wireless internet, and a plasma screen television.

The pool lies at the center of the hotel’s garden, surrounded by the bungalows and the bar’s terrace. There is plenty of outdoor spaces for lounging and enjoying French inspired meals and drinks made from locally grown fresh fruit. The hotel staff are happy to arrange excursions to nearby archeaological sites and the town of San Rafael.

Less a small hotel than the coolest collection of temporary lodgings for artists, wanderers, and chic nomads everywhere, room at El Cosmico are located in 5 beautifully restored vintage trailers from the 1950′s. You can choose from: 1956 Imperial Mansion (45 feet), 1953 Vagabond (35 feet), 1951 Royal Mansion (35 feet), 1951 Kozy Coach (27 feet), and 1950 Branstrator (27 feet).

El Cosmico offers guests all modern luxuries in a retro-cool setting. Each trailer has a stove, small refrigerator, fan, floor heating and hot water, unique light fixtures, and furnishings. The hotel also provides bedding, bath towels, and cooking utensils.

On-site amenities include a bath house with showers, tub, toilets, sinks, and electric outlets. Dutch tubs (a woodfired hot tub) are available for rent by the hour. A hammock grove is the perfect place to relax, while a shared outdoor kitchen has a fridge, BBQs, and picnic tables. Wireless internet is also available in the lobby.

25 minutes outside of Jaipur in the peaceful Indian countryside is the Farm, a beautiful hotel that opened in 2009. The property was originally a family palace destroyed by a dam. Many of the unique features around the Farm have been salvaged and reworked from elements of the original palace giving a cultural, colorful look to the surroundings.

The atmosphere is relaxed and creativity is encouraged. Classes in cooking, painting, and yoga are offered onsite. The Farm provides meals cooked from homegrown and seasonal produce for all guests, with extensive vegetarian options, served wherever you choose (poolside, perhaps?).

The hotel has 5-rooms, each with its own theme, a swimming pool on a raised terrace, on-site spa treatment room, and a recreational area with books, games, DVDs, and a wide-screen TV. Bicycles and ATV rentals are available for guests to explore the area on their own.
