Verana, Yelapa, Mexico

Verana is nine individual houses, with panoramic views of the mountains – deep in the Valle del Sierra Madre Occidental. Carved out of the lush Mexican jungle, Verana is remote and secluded, but still offers all the amenities for a comfortable and relaxing stay.
Each HOUSE was designed with its own character and feel to blend with the landscape and environment. The houses have their own gardens and terraces for privacy, but are still close enough so you don’t feel all alone in the jungle.
During the DAY, there is a lot to do: whale-watching, swimming, snorkeling, kayaking – or paragliding. Visit the village or ride our resident mules for a day trip into the jungle. You can arrange for a fishing trip, explore the coast and discover your own deserted beach… or just stay home, relax, spoil yourself at the spa, read, jump in the pool, watch birds, and enjoy the wonderful nature surrounding you.

Spend a week, felt like forever. No option to contact the outside world was the best antidote for us. Sleeping next to the forest with nothing in between was magical.
A perfect place in terms of location, scale and attention to service and detail.
Its worth the long journey and the steep clime up the hill.

This is an outstanding luxury, unique resort that exhibits an attention to detail that will satisfy the most discriminating traveler. It is mid way up the mountain, therefore unless you’re in reasonable shape for walking and climbing stairs, we’ll find it more challenging, but prehaps helpful to work off the delicous meals, The food is excellent – the chef interacts with the guests to deliver memorable meals to meet specific requests. Because each “house” is different, returning to the resort will seem new and special. The staff knows your name, and greets you each morning by name – as you are sitting at breakfast taking in the spectacular views.

Stayed at Verana during our ongoing Trans-Americas Journey-our 200,000+ mile working road trip through North, Central and South America.
Like a chic hippie commune high above the sea. Our room had not walls. At all. Loved it.
