Big Island Getaway, Honokaa, Hawaii
Big Island Getaway is a unique architectural property on five pastoral acres in Ahualoa. It evolved from a humble hippie outpost into a home designed for the grandson of J. Paul Getty. The curved spaces, playful forms, geometric angles, hidden stairways, Shakespeare balconies, and panoramic views make for a fresh take on Island architecture.
The center of the home is the Lava Room, which has a 34 foot stream cascading over seven granite waterfalls and emptying into a narrow Koi pond. The seating area opens completely to the outdoors, while the skylight roof shutters so the room can be used as a home theater. The amazing views take precedence in all rooms, from the octagonal shaped dining room to the eight-sided master suite.
Big Island Getaway has three bedrooms and can accommodate up to 6 guests.
