Ajaccio is most famous as the birthplace of Napoleon Bonaparte and remains Corsica’s main urban city. Situated along the southern west coast, it’s at the northern most shore along a large bay between Gravona and la Pointe de la Parata and the trendy route des Sanguinaires area to the west. The Iles Sanguinaire sit just off shore and La Plage de Porticcio is just over ten miles from the city and is one of the nicest beaches along the rugged Coti-Chiavari. Further south is the Gulf of Valinco and the hills and canyons of Propriano.
