Dwellings Become Art

This collection of villas is a celebration of the passage of time. Owned by a couple who relocated their family to the peaceful Greek island of Kefalonia in 2000, it's a one-hectare cliffside plot overlooking the Ionian Sea and a stone's throw from the water, with five different dwellings. Some were ruins of buildings built in the 18th century, some are new, but all are now stylish hideaways that blend traditional character with modern design.

Each structure exposes and celebrates the passing of time, but they have also been updated with modern indulgences and art from around the world. "We wanted to do something where the time itself is the big artist," say its owners. "And this is where time becomes art." 

They refer to these homes as a collection of art, and we love that idea. Each stands apart, with a different structure, different theme, and different design elements. It's an intriguing mix of old and new, global and personal, simple and ever so slightly decadent. All of this on an island with striking landscapes, colorful harbors and villages, beautiful beaches, and a fascinating history.

Each of these villas for rent in Greece is positioned to make the most of the views out across the Ionian Sea. Choose from five different homes, sleeping between two and six guests, each with a unique character. 

Armida, a structure that dates back to 1743, retains much of its original architecture but invites you to enter through a strikingly modern glass foyer. 

Maribou was once home to the family's olive press but is now home to an elegant retreat for two. 

Salamandra is a large space with a generous and playful pool and stone hideaway that's great for families. 

The two-story Trizoni is the other large dwelling on the estate, with a huge lap pool and separate annex for two. 

Then there's Zouzouni with its wraparound pool that makes its way inside the house.

Each of the homes has its own pool and terrace, offering great outdoor spaces to make the most of the unspoiled setting.

ADDITIONAL FEATURES

All villas are self-catering with kitchen and barbecues, but chef services can be arranged. Maid service, with a change of linen, is every four days, but additional maid services can be arranged. The owners live locally and offer concierge services 24 hours a day in Greek and English.  

AROUND

These villas for rent in Greece are nestled in a small village just 10 minutes from Fiscardo, on the north end of the island of Kefalonia. There are two restaurants near the villas at St Jerusalim and Alaties beach, with more slightly farther away in the village of Magganos. Don't miss Aqua Alaties beach bar for amazing cocktails and sunsets. Fiscardo itself, with its Venetian buildings and fishing harbor, is 10 minutes away by car. There you'll find three supermarkets, selling all kinds of produce as well as Kefalonian wines.

There's much to do on the island, from exploring the bustling capital of Argostoli, to visiting the underground lake in the Melissani cave and the stalactites and stalagmites in the cave of Drogatari. 

LOCATION

Fiscardo, Kefalonia, Greece. Nearest airport: Argostoli (30 miles), which has direct flights from Athens and the UK. Car hire is available, but a taxi can also be arranged.

BEST TIME TO VISIT: The weather in early and late season can be variable, with intermittent rain and temperatures dropping in the evening. The summer is hot and dry with temperatures regularly exceeding 38 degrees Celsius between June and September.
